The short version
- DeFeed collects no personal data. It has no server, no account and no analytics.
- Your rules, settings and stats are stored in your own browser.
- Data leaves your device only through your own Chrome sync, or when you choose to send a bug report or join the Pro waitlist.
Who runs DeFeed
DeFeed is made and operated by Gruber Tamás, an independent developer based in Hungary. For the few cases below where personal data is involved (the bug report form and the Pro waitlist), the operator is the data controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

What stays on your device
To work, DeFeed reads the posts on the supported sites and checks them against your rules. This happens inside your browser. Post content is never sent anywhere.
DeFeed saves the following with Chrome's built-in extension storage:
| Stored in | What | How long |
|---|---|---|
chrome.storage.sync | Your settings and rules | Until you change or delete them, or remove DeFeed |
chrome.storage.local | Weekly statistics (posts filtered per site and per rule) | 70 days |
chrome.storage.local | Log of hidden posts, used by “What did DeFeed filter?” and rule suggestions | 60 days |
chrome.storage.local | Your “always shown” list (posts you marked “Never hide this post”) | Until you remove an entry or remove DeFeed |
The operator of DeFeed cannot access any of this. It never leaves your browser, except for synced settings as described below.
What can leave your device
Only two things, and both are under your control.
1. Your own Chrome sync
If Chrome sync is turned on, Chrome copies the contents of chrome.storage.sync (your settings and rules) to your other computers through your Google account. This is handled by Google under Google's privacy policy. DeFeed has no access to it beyond your own browser.
2. The bug report form, if you use it
DeFeed includes a link to a bug report form hosted by Tally (tally.so/r/RWKXrd). Nothing is sent unless you open the form and submit it yourself. The form is pre-filled with:
- your DeFeed version and browser version
- the site you were on and the mode you were using (hide or dim)
- how many rules you have, but never the text of your rules
- one performance measurement
Plus anything you type into the form, such as a description or an email address if you want a reply. We use this only to investigate and fix the problem, and delete reports once they are resolved and no longer needed. Tally processes the submission on our behalf. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in fixing bugs you report (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
Pro waitlist
The website offers an optional form, also hosted by Tally, to be notified when DeFeed Pro launches. If you sign up, we collect your email address and the time you signed up.
- We use your email only to tell you when Pro launches. No newsletters, no sharing, no selling.
- The legal basis is your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time by using the unsubscribe link in our email or by writing to defeedsupport@gmail.com.
- We keep the list until Pro has launched and we have sent the announcement, then delete it. If you withdraw consent earlier, we delete your address straight away.
Permissions
DeFeed asks Chrome for as little as it needs:
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
storage | Saves your rules, settings and statistics in your browser. |
scripting | Runs the filter on the pages of the supported sites. |
| Access to 5 sites | YouTube, X, Reddit, Hacker News and Facebook. DeFeed cannot read any other website. |
What DeFeed never does
- It does not collect, sell or share personal data.
- It does not track your browsing or use analytics, cookies or ad identifiers.
- It does not use your data for advertising, credit decisions or anything unrelated to filtering your feed.
DeFeed's use of data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
This website, getdefeed.app, is static. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics. It is hosted on Vercel, which processes standard request data such as your IP address to deliver the pages. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which also receives your IP address as part of delivering them.
Deleting your data
Removing DeFeed from Chrome deletes everything in its local storage. To also remove synced settings from your Google account, clear your synced data in Chrome's sync settings. For bug reports or waitlist sign-ups, email us and we will delete them.
Your rights
For any personal data we hold (bug reports and waitlist sign-ups), you have the right to access it, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its processing, and receive it in a portable format. Write to defeedsupport@gmail.com and we will respond within one month.
You can also complain to the Hungarian National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH, naih.hu) or to the data protection authority in your own country.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update it here and change the effective date at the top. If a change affects how data leaves your device, we will mention it in the extension's release notes.
